This article talks about how using media to attract college students can be good and bad at times. One potential student had the experience of viewing other peoples experience at john Hopkins so she decided that it would be a good idea for her to attend the school. I wish I could have went to some website to view other students experiences with San Jose State before I made the decision to attend school here, I might have decided to attend school somewhere else. This article also talks about the misuses of social media to reach students. One professor decide to make a math music video which seems to be a bit much and I know it had to be extremely boring. Overall though I do think that it is a great idea for students to share their college experience with other students. That way people can make a good choice on where they choose to attend college.

ReplyDeleteI think this is actually a really smart idea. With so many companies investing in marketing on Facebook and Twitter, it's about time colleges did the same as well! Teenagers spend so much time on the internet, especially Facebook so better way to sell your school than to post about it all over social networking websites. I thought the article made an interesting point about what colleges do wrong and right online. The point of social media is not only to get information across but to be interactive as well. Because of this, if colleges do not respond to a person's inquiries and questions then of course he/she will lose interest and the college would fail to meet the goal of its website.
ReplyDeleteI thought the idea of having a calculus video was pretty hilarious. Yes it seems a bit much but if it sparks someone's interest in going to the school then its done its job!
